We know the human aggregate constitutes of body, mind and intelligence but logical reasoning tells me that I’m not this body, so WHO AM I? I can’t be the body, because all my body parts can be replaced (please read yesterday’s blog). That leaves me with my mind. Now that’s something you cannot replace. It’s always there, so to answer my earlier question – Who am I? – I am this mind.
But wait a minute, is my mind always there? When I’m awake, my mind is there nudging me with thoughts and overwhelming me with emotions. But what happens to it when I fall asleep? In deep sleep, I don’t have any thoughts; neither do I experience any emotions. So in deep sleep, my mind doesn’t exist; therefore, if I am the mind, I too don’t exist???? Umm... so unflattering to know that I cease to exist when I fall asleep.
Well, knowing very well that “I” exist at all times – sleep, dream or awake –, I can only conclude that I am NOT this mind. Oh dear! So who am I?
