Who Am I?

Back to my favourite quote - We are not human beings on a spiritual journey; we are spiritual beings on a human journey - ummph........still mind boggling.

I have been giving this some serious thought. Ok, let’s ask ourselves, how would we define a human? A life form with a body, mind and intelligence. If someone were to ask, who are you? The answer would be I am Jivan. But here, I’m only introducing my physical body. Am I only this 65kg of flesh, bones, blood vessels, bone marrows, tissues and organs? Let’s say, if I get a transplant – flesh, bones, blood vessels, the whole works – am I not Jivan anymore? Logically, I can’t be Jivan because each piece of my body has come from someone else. Uh-Oh! Do I cease to exist then?

Logic tells me that I’m not this body. So what’s left? Oh! Yes, the mind. Even if each part of my body is replaced but my mind cannot be replaced. So, at the mind level, I’m still Jivan. Whew! I’m back in existence (for now).
